About Onshore Students

From 29 July, 2021, all recruiters on any subscription plan will be able to recruit onshore students residing in three of our major study destinations -  Australia, Canada and the UK - regardless of whether they have an office in that location. This means onshore recruitment can occur remotely.

This opens up so much new potential for recruiters who want to grow their business.

Please note: If you are planning to recruit onshore students from other countries than those specified above and you do not currently hold a licence for those countries, you will need to talk to us about upgrading your licences and subscription plan. Please contact your Account Manager. You can also update your licences by changing your subscription plan using My Plan.

As onshore students are usually already studying in their destination country, there will not be the need for a new visa application. The processing at Adventus.io has been streamlined to cater for these situations, making processing time shorter.

Note:  The student may still need to apply for an extension of their visa, as per the requirements of the specific country.

What is an onshore student?

An onshore student is currently studying abroad and living in the country where they are studying.

The onshore student may come to your attention for a variety of reasons. These can include that they may wish to change their course of study from one institution to another or have finished their study and want to do further study in the same country.

If a student finds themselves in this position, they can now apply to other institutions without having to find a new counsellor in their study destination. They still gain personalised assistance from you, someone who already understands their situation and needs.

Indicate 'Onshore Student' on Your Student's Profile

When adding a new student or updating the details of an existing student (Student Information>Student Details), make sure you fill in the onshore fields in the student’s Student Profile.  This ensures that course search results will be tailored to your student’s needs.

How do I search for courses for my onshore student?

There are two ways to conduct a course search for an onshore student.

Course Search without entering student details first if you want to run an initial search without a specific student in mind. You can add a particular student’s details to the search afterwards.  For more information about course search without a student, see Course Search without a Student

Use the Course Search button to begin.

Select the student in your dashboard and update the onshore student and study preference fields as described above. Then head to Student Information>Course Search.

How can I tell if a course is available to an Onshore Student?

Courses that are available to your student as an onshore student are indicated with an ‘Onshore’ badge in the Shortlist page.

Other courses listed without the badge may indicate that:

  • the course is online only; or

  • the institution would take students of the specified nationality regardless of onshore status - for example, an institution in New Zealand may accept Sri Lankan students who are studying in Australia; many Pathway programs accept students from many different locations; or

  • the institution is in a country that is not the student’s country of residence and would accept students of their nationality.

Why is the course I want for my onshore student not showing in the search results?

In order for a course to show in the course search that is applicable to the student’s onshore status, the following criteria must all be met:

  • The student is indicated on their student profile as Onshore

  • You have a licence for the onshore country (You now automatically have an onshore licence for Australia, Canada and the UK).

  • The institution offers the course to onshore students. Not all institutions offer courses to onshore students.

What happens if the student shortlists a course and then updates their profile changing their onshore status?

The course will remain in the shortlist, unless it is removed by you or the student.  If the student is no longer eligible for the course due to their onshore status change, this will be managed during our Admissions processes.
